Walking around the halls of Fremont High School, it’s easy to catch sight of students with caffeinated drinks in hand. Recent surveys show that approximately 69% of Americans consume at least one caffeinated drink per day, and three out of four Americans shared that they need caffeine to get them through the morning. Half of those individuals even claimed that they need caffeine to get through the afternoon.

Overall, the intake of too much caffeine can cause a spike in anxiety, nervousness, adrenaline and disrupted sleeping patterns. Digestive issues, the breakdown of muscles and caffeine dependency can also occur.

About the Contributor
Kilee Holcomb, Staff Writer & Photographer
Kilee Holcomb is a sophomore, and this is her first year on the Tiger’s Eye staff. She spends her time participating in band, pursuing her love for photography, reading, writing, and playing with her 3-legged dog named Peaches (honorable mention to her Aussiedoodle Baloo). A fun fact about her band career is that she’s been in band for 5 years and marching band for 4. You could say that when people wear the same color of shirts and pants at once it gets on her nerves. She believes it would benefit the school if students would be more engaged in their classes and talk more.

I also noticed how many students have a caffeine to start the day. I am one of them, but it is interesting to see how it affects me.

Not going to lie… I do love my coffee, but I do try to limit my intake as much as possible. But there are days where I need a little more than usual. Great article!

An informative photo essay. How can we get caffeinated drinks out of the hands of teens?
Mayrin Lopez • Apr 13, 2026 at 8:55 pm
I never paid much attention in the effects of caffeine this helped me realize how negatively it can affect people.

In order for me to function during the day I must get caffeine in my body otherwise I’m like a zombie the whole day.
Madelyn Pablo • Apr 10, 2026 at 2:01 pm
I’ve never had that drink before, but I’d love to try it—though the most impressive thing is the photo; it looks completely professional!

I must be caffinated in the morning to get going, but that’s it for the day. Nice photo essay.

Amazing photo essay! The visuals and facts work so well together to show how common caffeine use is in everyday student life.

I’m more addicted to energy drinks. But I’m cheap so I drink those powder Celsius packets.

I’m not much of a caffeine person but reading this helped me se the pros and cons of caffeine and the effects caffeine can have on a person.
Hunter Schuelke • Apr 8, 2026 at 2:39 pm
I drink caffeine every day, but this makes me think that it might be a good idea to slow down.
Gianna • Apr 8, 2026 at 2:33 pm
I see such a crazy amount of caffeine every day but you can’t even blame the students, there’s so much work to do
Makenzie Spang • Apr 8, 2026 at 1:33 pm
I wish there was more information. It would have been interesting to see this as more of an article rather than more photo essay. I don’t have an energy drink everyday, but every now and then it’s nice to have a pick-me-up.

I understand the bad thing with caffeine, but without it I would not get through a day of school!
Taylor Warner • Apr 8, 2026 at 11:44 am
I mean, I know caffeine is not the greatest but I love my Red Bull and ik that it isn’t the best for me, but I still love it. It just hits sometimes, you know? The taste, the little energy boost especially when I’m tired or need to get through something. I’m not pretending it’s healthy or anything, I just try not to overdo it. It’s one of those things I enjoy even if I know it’s not perfect.

I always see at least the same 10 kids in line for deja brew in the mornings!
Susan Fowler • Apr 8, 2026 at 10:43 am
I understand the issues with caffeine and agree with this article. But I am also one that has coffee each day. Maybe I should find another vice.
McKenize Taege • Apr 8, 2026 at 10:33 am
Caffeine is an impact on my life so I really learned a lot.
Thanks for the education.
Becky Tighe • Apr 8, 2026 at 10:22 am
I’m definitely one that needs a little caffeine daily!
Mrs. Uttecht • Apr 8, 2026 at 10:16 am
I’ve thought this same thing recently! I’m always curious the percentage of students who buy drinks every morning and how much they spend. I like that this was a photo essay. Nice job Kilee!
