A variety of students run businesses at FHS in their free time, gaining experience while also earning money on the side. Two of those students—twins Dixon and Dixany Gutierrez—are sophomores who sell pastries. They started their business at the beginning of September this year.
One of their main selling tactics is posting about their products on social media. They advertise either on their business account, @duo_delights_pastries on Instagram, or on their personal accounts. At other times, their business spreads through word of mouth. On some occasions, Dixon lets people know ahead of time when they plan to sell so they do not end up making excessive amounts of cookies with no one to buy them. Once people are aware, they can place an order by letting them know how many cookies they want and what flavors they would like.
They used to sell around 60–80 cookies at school but were “caught” and stopped selling for a short time. Not long after, they quickly started selling again both at school and on weekends. Now, since they take orders beforehand, they can still sell during school; they just have to be careful about it.

The process of making the cookies is not very difficult. They follow a simple cookie base recipe that allows for an assortment of flavors. They make the cookie dough, roll it up, and let it sit in the fridge for about an hour. They do not experience many problems when making them. The only issue they have encountered so far is when a customer orders at the last minute, which sometimes requires them to stay awake late to fulfill the order. Packaging depends on the number of customers who ordered, and altogether the process can take about three to four hours to complete.
If you are craving a small, sweet treat during school, it is best to ask them when they are available. They offer six cookie flavors, as well as other desserts such as cinnamon rolls, brownies, and Oreo balls.
