As time goes on, things change. Clothing, music, and architectural styles are re-vamped, leadership positions are taken over by new people, and technology advances. Even though we as a society are evolving, many things actually stay the same.
Trends cycle back through into our daily lives, clothing that people wore in the 2000s are now in style again. Older music is now on more people’s radar, and all over the media, “vintage” TV shows showcase the lives of those when times seemed simpler.
Hollywood and the TV industry have done an amazing job of capturing the “good old days.” With hit movies and TV shows like, “IT(2017),” “Stranger Things,” and the Fear Street franchise have popularized the 80’s and 90’s.
Another form of media that “brings back the past,” is biopics. Biopics about different actors or musicians have gained widespread popularity in theaters throughout the world. With “Complete Unknown,” showcasing the life and musical career of Bob Dylan, “Back to Black,” the Amy Winehouse Biopic, or “One Love,” about Bob Marley, many musical artists have been given their chance to shine on the big screen.
Although there is one artist in particular, who many would claim is the “King of Pop,” who has not yet had his time to shine. This artist is Michael Jackson.
His movie, titled “Michael” came out this past spring and has been well received by fans. According to the box office, “Michael” has been an extremely successful global blockbuster, and earned $864 million. It was also the second-highest-grossing film of 2026 so far.
Not only was this movie financially successful, but it is also very special to the Jackson family. Jafaar Jackson, Michael’s nephew, took on the large role of playing Michael himself.
About a week ago, I went to see the film with a couple of my friends. In my opinion, it was very well done. It illustrated the story of Michael’s younger years and the Jackson 5’s rise to fame. The many highs, and lows, of show business were displayed for all to see. It showed that not everything is perfect all of the time, even when it seems to be.
Of course, the film had many recognizable songs with dance performances too, which was a fun addition and made the film more engaging. It was a fun experience because his songs are just that recognizable.
At the end of the movie, a couple words were illuminated across the screen. “To be Continued.” This hints that there is more to the story and a second film will soon be made.
I am excited to see the second half of his life and learn the rest of Jackson’s story. Overall, I would rate the film a 9/10 and recommend checking it out!
