Known for his ability to connect with students and dedication to improving the school, Assistant Principal Seth McClain takes on a new role as the activities director. Beginning July 1st, McClain will be focusing on activities and expanding student engagement.
McClain’s teaching career began in 1999. He is passionate about making students feel supported and tries to make every student feel welcome.
“It’s a very neat position [assistant principal], especially at this grade level,” McClain shares. “Some juniors know exactly what they want to do and how to get there, but not many do.”
Being an assistant principal brings many responsibilities and can be fast-paced. McClain balances handling interviews, meetings, teacher questions and discipline while still encouraging students to do their best throughout the day.
“Things come up, maybe kids aren’t making the best decisions and we have to go and work with them. There’s something new all the time,” McClain said.

When asked about the change, McClain shares that he enjoys being involved in athletics and activities. He believes that students participating in activities and branching out is what makes the school environment better. Being in an activity gives students a reason to come to school.
“We need to try to get more kids involved in activities. I think it makes the school a better place,” McClain said. “It gives you a reason to come here. I really enjoy activities and I would like students to have a great experience as well.”
Switching from one role to another is not going to be easy. McClain sees this new role as an opportunity to reinvent himself and learn through the new experience. Although taking on a new challenge is exciting, he admits that he will miss the day to day conversations with students.
“It’s just different because I’ll be setting up for events or getting things ready. I don’t think I have to do lunch duty anymore, and at lunch I’m always walking around and talking to the students,” McClain said.
As he adapts to fill his new position as Fremont High School’s activity director, he will continue to have valuable experiences as he goes.
“Seth brings valuable experience as a teacher, coach, and administrator, along with strong relationships across our school community,” superintendent Dr. Brad Dahl said in a press release. “We’re excited to see him expand his impact through a greater focus on activities and student engagement at Fremont High School.”
