Hidetaka Miyazaki, president of FromSoftware, is known in the gaming world as one of the best directors, designers and writers in the industry for creating a genre labeled as “Souls Like” with his creation of Demon’s Souls, which was released February 5, 2009.

Since then, each game Miyazaki has released has been an improvement upon the last, and his games have consistently set and break records.

Miyazaki’s release of “Elden Ring” in Feb of 2022, set a new course for FromSoftware with its first open world game they’ve made – and it was a huge success. In order for this success to happen, Miyazaki incorporated new game play mechanics and revised some previous mechanics. For instance, this was the first game to feature a mount similar to a horse that players could use to traverse the vast world faster. Miyazaki also included jumping and crouching features to better allow players to introduce stealth.

With Elden Ring’s innovative game play, gamers around the world (and myself) instantly fell in love with the game as well as brought in new fans to this genre. Ever since playing Dark Souls II, I’ve become a fan of this genre because of its great challenge and beautiful stories. When I heard Miyazaki was working on a new story, I was beyond excited to give it a play.

Within the last month the average player count is 53,346.3 and the peak player count is 111,914. The game has earned a total of 152 million in sales. How. There was no doubt that the dlc was on the way. Since FromSoftware has the reputation of DLC that actually adds to a completed story and not having cosmetic dlc, fans and I feel justified when buying it because of the guaranteed quality and story. The DLC promised new land to explore with new enemies, bosses, weapons, spells and incantations. The final boss is Messmer the Impaler, who is believed to be the lost and unwanted son of Queen Marika, which is hinted by dialogue in the trailer from his quote: “Mother, wouldst thou truly Lordship sanction, in one so bereft of light?”

Elden Ring is known for the extremely difficult boss fights, and the DLC has confirmed that the new bosses would be the hardest yet. With the added weapon categories and spells, players can even attempt new and different playthroughs before exploring the new land and biomes.

Over two years later, gamers look forward to this thrilling DLC. I, for one, cannot wait to summon my friends and explore this new world with them. Shadow of the Erdtree DLC will release on all platforms on June 21.
