Fremont High School girls soccer team is ending its 2025 season with a record of 9-6, beating the school record for most wins in a season. Originally, the record was eight wins in a season. This year they broke it with nine. The previous record was set in 2000, when head coach Gina Hoffman was a senior on the team.
Based on the number of games they’ve won this year, it is clear they trust each other on the field. Even off the field the players have an amazing bond.
“This team is like my family,” freshman Keira McDermott said. “We are always supporting each other on and off the field.”
The girls had some outstanding games this season. Their best game was against Lutheran North East from Norfolk, ending with FHS 8, LHNE 0. Senior Emma Diers scored six goals that game, and senior Cecily Barncenes added two.

Without the help of their coaches, games like this wouldn’t be possible. Assistant coach Alan Sharp’s core values clearly benefit the team during games.
“I think it’s important for our team to act like teammates and work together and be there for each other,” Sharp said. “Reinforcing positive behaviors and what it means to be a good teammate.”
At a recent game against Norfolk Lutheran Northeast, the team came out victorious. This was an important tournament for the team.
“The Omaha Bryan Tournament was a huge accomplishment for us and we were super excited to win it,” McDermott said.
During the offseason, lots of athletes struggle to remain motivated for practice. But, a varsity player shared her reasons for staying motivated during the offseason.
“We have a lot of fun as a team so keeping those memories makes you want to push yourself to have even more fun,” McDermott said.
Besides the fun she has at her sport, role models help her stay motivated to work hard. Seeing others’ successes inspires many athletes, including McDermott.
“I think there’s always the professional people, but I look up to a lot of our teammates like our seniors; they’re very good leaders,” McDermott said.
The season ended May 5, when the Fremont varsity Tigers fell to Papillion-La Vista South Titans.
