When sophomore Alejandro Villagomez accidentally spiked the ball into English teacher Stacey Smith’s face, he felt exuberant and remorseful. For several years, FHS has offered intramural sports for both students and staff members to participate in. Though intramural volleyball is becoming decreasingly popular, students and staff still enjoy the sporting activity.
“Do it [intramural volleyball],” sophomore Adilyn Brown said, “It’s fun! I mean, I’m a part of the worst team here, and I’m still having a great time!”
Many students, like Brown, are looking for an activity to do after school that does not require excessive amounts of physical exertion and commitment. Students from all sorts of backgrounds join together to play intramural sports, and even some teachers have joined.
Students like Villagomez can join intramural volleyball even if they do not have any experience.
“I have never played volleyball for any clubs or schools,” Villagomez said.
Experienced or not, anyone can play intramural volleyball, even those who have never touched a sports ball in their life play.
“I played volleyball all four years of high school,” Smith said. “I have played intramural volleyball every year. I think you [students] should all join so that my team can beat you.”
For students and staff interested in playing or watching intramural volleyball or other intramural sports, contact Gina Hoffman from the physical education department.
